FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How spicy / hot are your curries?

Depends which dish you get. Everyone’s heat tolerance is different. If you find it too hot, have some plain yoghurt on the side or a glass of milk ready.

The hottest dishes on SADYA’s menu would be the Appa’s Chilli Chicken/Beef (chilli spice), Fish Mango Curry (chilli spice) and maybe Beef Roast (pepper spice).

Where is your restaurant based?

I’m not a restaurant. I’m a takeaway business that’s home-based in Tokai, Cape Town. I only do sit-down for my cooking & baking classes.

Do you offer free shipping?

Free collection is offered within 2kms of Tokai (postal codes 7966 & 7945). Free shipping up to 30kms of Cape Town for order overs R1000.

Are your dishes gluten-free?

Most dishes are. However some of masalas I use in some of the dishes ‘may contain traces of gluten/peanuts’ as per the packaging. We personally do not directly add any flour/gluten to any of our curries/dishes.

What are the heating instructions?

To reheat from frozen: Microwave on high 5 mins, stir, reheat an addiional 5 mins or more until hot.

Guideline: If fresh/frozen 2-3/7-8 minutes in the microwave (stirring occastionally to ensure even heating). If fresh/frozen 7-10 / 20-30 minutes in the oven with a foil over it so the oven doesn’t dry out the curry.

Is rice included with the dishes or is it sold separately?

Rice is sold separately unless you’re buying a biriyani.

Do you cook butter chicken?

No. SADYA’s passion is SOUTH INDIAN food.

Are you halal?

As of January 2025, all meat dishes are strictly halal. However, my kitchen is not halal.

SADYA is a home run business so we cannot be strictly halal. SADYA plans convert my garage to a kitchen – then we can be strictly halal. 🙂

How many people does a portion feed?

Single portions serve one person (all dishes are 300g except the biriyanis which are 475g). If someone has a larger appetite, then I suggest ordering two single portions.

Are you from Durban?

No. I was born in Kerala, India & I was raised in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. I’m proudly South African Malayalee!
